IEEE venues are competitive and specific. A careful preparation pass is often the difference between a review and a quick rejection.
Match the venue
IEEE publishes Transactions, journals and conferences with different expectations. Read each venue’s aims and scope page and its recent papers. A Transactions paper is expected to show a substantial, well-evaluated contribution.
State the novelty plainly
Put the contribution in your abstract and introduction in two or three sentences. List how your work differs from the closest recent IEEE papers, and do not leave it to the reviewer to guess.
Use fair baselines
Compare against current methods on standard datasets or scenarios, with the same settings. Weak or outdated baselines are one of the most common reasons for a negative review.
Follow the format
Download the current template from the IEEE Author Center and check the venue’s own author guidelines. Use vector figures, readable fonts in plots and IEEE reference style.
Check integrity items
- Run a similarity check and review any overlaps with your own earlier work.
- Make sure every author is listed correctly and has an ORCID if requested.
- Include data or code availability statements where the venue asks.
Prepare for review
Revisions are normal. Reply to every reviewer comment point by point, quote the change you made and explain politely where you disagree.
